Neolith Retrostone: A Contemporary Twist on a Design Classic

A Subtle and Sophisticated Surface Inspired by Terrazzo

Terrazzo has been re-emerging lately as a favorite in the design world. Traditionally a method of reusing stone offcuts, it is not limited by color or grain size restrictions, allowing flexibility to develop a distinct character. Responding to recent demand for the vintage motif, Neolith defined Retrostone with subdued tones and a larger grain for contemporary use and a longevity which will transcend fluctuating interior trends.

Retrostone, designed by The Think Tank, is an aesthetically pleasing original surface based on the design classic terrazzo. Its motif is a playful twist on traditionally bold, and sometimes gaudy, terrazzo. Incorporating softer, translucent tones and a larger grain, this subtle surface gives the classic a new lease of life. Made using Neolith's Full Body Technology, the same color and design as the surface is integrated throughout the slab, offering fabricators incredible creative potential.

A new development for Sintered Stone, Retrostone's full body effect was created through the combination of Neolith Digital Design (NDD) and emergent Full Body Technology. NDD has revolutionized design possibilities, achieving a new level of realism for surfaces like Retrostone. Full Body Technology integrates the same color and design as the surface throughout the slab. For Retrostone, Neolith incorporated a polished effect to the grain, adding visual value to the pattern.

Retrostone is available in two specifications: a silk finish in 3,200 mm x 1,600 mm x 6 mm and a silk finish in 3,200 mm x 1,600 mm x 12 mm. Its unique properties make it suitable for a variety of applications, from worktops and walls to exterior cladding. The surface is resistant to extreme temperatures, wear, and UV exposure, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor use. Its non-porous nature also makes it perfect for humid environments.

The installation process for Retrostone is made easy by its large dimensions and Neolith's special rectifying system, which reduces the number of joints needed. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures a seamless and durable surface.

The idea for Retrostone started in March 2017, and after extensive research and development, it was officially launched as part of Neolith's 2018 collection. The design has received accolades, including the Iron A' Design Award in the Building Materials and Construction Components category in 2019.

Retrostone is a testament to Neolith's commitment to innovation and pushing the boundaries of design. By reimagining a classic material and incorporating modern technology, Retrostone offers a sophisticated and timeless surface that will elevate any space.
